Fuel pump- commonly used on 4 stroke engines but often installed on 2-strokes also. Used whenever a fuel tank isn’t high enough above the carb level, particularly far away, or you cannot get a fast enough gravity feed.

Operates the same way as a pumper carb- both of them pump fuel by using the crankshaft pressure pulses to move a diaphragm, and having reed valves behind it to cause the fuel to circulate in one direction.

Many (myself included) have also “cheated” by using the intake pressure pulse instead of the crankshaft pulse. This may work well- especially if you only need to ‘boost’ your fuel flow a bit for full throttle use- however it won’t pump as strongly as using the crankshaft pulse.
