Use this Spring Loaded Chain Tensioner either as a replacement for the bulky, basic tensioners supplied with the kits- OR use both in conjunction for a foolproof setup.
When using both, the standard tensioner can be set slightly loose, and can avoid almost all usual needs for adjustment (for example, after removing the rear wheel). With the kit-supplied tensioner set so the chain is just slightly slackened, the spring tensioner is then able to absorb enormous variation- even with a slowly moving stock tensioner, axle, or engine mounts which could otherwise leave you stranded.
For the most simple and sleek setup, this spring tensioner can be used on its own. This will retain most of the same advantages as using both tensioners- however it is important that the chain has as little slack as possible. (when the engine is started using the clutch and during deceleration, the engine’s drag will put tension on the bottom half of the chain and possibly make the spring tensioner loosen. To avoid this, the chain should be made as tight as possible before installing the tensioner spring (by removing links and adjusting axle position) to ensure the spring is stretched fairly tight.
